FNB Hobart Makers | A History

FNB Hobart Makers grew from a simple idea: people who are often locked out of conventional employment can still have skills, creativity and things worth making.

The project began by working alongside people at the Shared Table and through Men’s Shed programs, providing access to tools, materials and practical support. Rather than building a large workshop or factory, the idea was to work one person at a time — finding what someone enjoyed making and then helping them turn that interest into something they could share, sell or build on.

Over time, makers have worked with wood, art, craft and other materials. Priscilla developed her own path through the project, eventually establishing Woodcraft Adventures Tasmania. Eamonn developed his art and craft work, while others have experimented with their own products and ideas.

Today, FNB Hobart Makers continues that original idea: the maker leads the project; they make it happen; we provide the tools, skills and support to help them get there. It isn’t about creating businesses at scale. It’s about creating possibilities — sometimes a product, sometimes a side income, sometimes a pathway into work, and sometimes simply the confidence to say, I made this.
