Introducing

A thoughtfully made piece for everyday life

Each piece starts as rough-sawn Tasmanian timber and is shaped, sanded and finished by hand at a shared making table. It's built for daily use — on your desk, in your kitchen, wherever it earns its place — and every order helps keep that table open to makers in our community.

Three things to love

Tasmanian timber

Every piece begins with timber sourced close to home, each board carrying its own honest grain and colour. It's a small, tangible link to the Tasmanian landscape it came from.

Made by hand

Shaped, sanded and finished one at a time by a maker in our community, not a production line. That human touch is why no two pieces are ever quite the same, and why small batches matter.

Made with a wild heart

Our timber comes from an island shared with echidnas, pademelons and quolls, and every order supports the care of those living landscapes. It's a quiet way of giving back to the wild places this craft depends on.

Story and craft

Made by hand, shared by many

This piece began the way most things do at FNB Hobart Makers — around a shared table, with an idea and a length of local timber. A maker in our community shaped the first version by hand, and the design was refined through conversation and trial before it was ready to share.

Every piece is cut, shaped, sanded and finished by hand, one at a time, rather than produced on a line. That slower pace is intentional: it's what lets each maker leave their own mark on the grain and gives every finished piece its own quiet character.

When you pre-order, you're supporting more than a single object. You're helping keep tools, workshop space and skills accessible to our community of makers, and contributing to FNB Hobart's wider mutual-aid work.

Timber options

We currently offer three Tasmanian timbers, each with its own colour, grain and story. Because every board is different, no two finished pieces are ever quite alike.

Tasmanian Huon Pine

Pale gold in tone with a fine, straight grain and a natural oiliness that gives it a soft, lasting sheen. One of the slowest-growing timbers in the world, prized for its warmth and quiet character.

Tasmanian King Billy Pine

A pale, even-toned timber with a tight, straight grain that takes a smooth, refined finish. Understated and elegant, it suits pieces meant to feel calm and considered.

Tasmanian Spalted Sassafras

Creamy white timber marked with dark, naturally occurring spalting lines, the result of a slow fungal process in the tree. Each board carries its own unique pattern, making every piece genuinely one of a kind.

Because colour and grain vary naturally from board to board, your finished piece may look slightly different from the examples shown here. We see that as part of its character, not a flaw.
